Toros University is a newly established university in Mersin, Turkey. It was officially established on July 23, 2009, by the Mersin Education Foundation. The foundation's roots date back 40 years, when it first established high schools. Toros University is a private, non-profit university and a Turkish foundation university. It takes its name from the Taurus Mountains, a mountain range in southern Turkey that separates the southern Mediterranean coastal region from the Central Anatolian Plateau. The mountain range extends from Lake Eğirdir in the west to the upper reaches of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers in the east, and is considered part of the Alpide belt in Eurasia.
Toros University is located in Mersin Province in southern Turkey and was founded by Yaşar Bayboğan, the head of the Bayboğan Organization. One of the most prominent universities in the Mediterranean basin in Turkey, Toros University is distinguished by its prime location in the center of southern Turkey, near Adana Province, which gives it a strategic advantage, as it lies between the sea on one side and the Taurus Mountains on the other. The university consists of three faculties, one institute, and one vocational school.
