Its founding dates back to 1453 AD, following the conquest of Istanbul by Sultan Mehmed II, known as "the Conqueror." Initially established as a school, Istanbul University began attracting scholars from various countries, from Samarkand to Fez, following the official invitation extended by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror.
