What is the Turkish certificate equivalency document (denklik)?

Enrollment in Turkish universities requires certain documents, including a high school equivalency certificate, known in Turkish as (Denklik). This document is important for students to prove that the high school diploma they obtained in their country is equivalent to Turkish diplomas. This certificate can be obtained in two ways:

What documents are required for high school diploma equivalency for foreigners in Türkiye?

Fill out an electronic form through the Turkish Education Directorate website via the link:

After filling out the electronic form, the following documents are prepared and submitted to the Turkish Directorate of Education. The documents are:

1. The original high school certificate, certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country from which you received your high school certificate.

2. A certified copy of the grades for the last 3 academic years from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

3. If the student has completed his studies at an international school such as IG, he will be required to have his documents authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country where he completed his studies, and then authenticated by the country’s embassy in Turkey.

4. A valid passport photo.

5. The student’s visa and a copy of it. This visa can be replaced with a residence card, if available.

6. The university acceptance letter obtained from the website for the Turkish university you have chosen to study at.

7. The high school equivalency application form that you filled out in Turkish is obtained from the Equivalency Authority at the Education Administration (Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğü). You can obtain it through the following link:

9. If the student is under 18 years of age, he must attach a guardianship contract and a power of attorney from his guardian.

Documents required for high school equivalency for Syrians in Türkiye:

1- Temporary protection card (Kimlik).

2- The original high school certificate, if available.

3- Certified main marks sheet.

4- Translation and notarization of the certificate.

5- An envelope to authenticate the secondary school certificate from the Syrian Coalition office in Türkiye.

6- (Passport if available).

7- Residential address (population registry).

Steps to have your degree recognized in Türkiye:

1. Visit the official certificate equivalency website

3. Upload your papers and book a submission day.

4. You will be asked to go to the Directorate of Education (Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğü) in your university city within Türkiye on the specified date and time.

Important note for Syrian students

Syrian students who have obtained their certificates from Syria only must have their high school certificates authenticated by the Syrian Interim Government’s Education Office in Gaziantep, southern Türkiye, at the following address:
