Degree equivalency in Turkey is a process conducted at a Turkish higher education institution in Ankara. The process aims to verify the validity of a university degree awarded in a foreign student's home country. The process involves contacting the relevant university to verify the validity of the degree and the grade recorded on it. Once the validity is confirmed, a decision is issued to equivalency the degree. The applicant then takes a comprehensive exam in their field, based on the decision of the educational institution, which considers the university that issued the degree and the field of specialization. Some universities or fields of specialization may not require a comprehensive exam for their field of specialization. This exam is held twice a year in the capital, Ankara. After passing the exam, the applicant is issued an equivalency certificate.

What documents are required for certificate equivalency in Türkiye?

1- A copy of the passport or a copy of the Turkish residence permit, regardless of its type (work residence permit, temporary protection, tourist residence permit)

2- A copy of the modified secondary school certificate,

3- The original graduation certificate, translated and notarized.

Procedures for the process of accrediting university degrees for foreigners in Türkiye

The Turkish Higher Education website recently launched the possibility of applying electronically for the equivalence of university degrees issued outside Turkey, including Syrian universities. The person applying for the equivalence can access the Higher Education website, on the equivalence page, through the edevlet website, the electronic government advisor.

Then click on the link mentioned on the page to be automatically transferred to the amendment form. The applicant for amendment must have the personal code for the e-government program (edevlet), which is requested by the (PTT).

The electronic application contains boxes for filling in the applicant's personal information, such as the national number and full name according to the university degree after translation and notarization, in addition to the place and date of issuance of the university degree. It is worth noting that the electronic amendment request is considered a preliminary request submitted to the Higher Education Council, where a date is chosen to attach the complete papers in person or through a legal representative to the headquarters of the Higher Education Council in Ankara at the following address:
