Establishment of a university
Harran University
The first higher education institution in Şanlıurfa was Şanlıurfa Vocational High School (1976), followed by the Faculty of Agriculture (1978) and the Department of Environmental Engineering (1984). Both departments were incorporated into Dicle University. These universities were followed by the establishment of the Department of Theology by Gaziantep University (1988). Harran University was established in 1992, as a result of the formation of 23 universities (Law No. 3837, July 9, 1994). The aforementioned schools were incorporated into this institution along with two other departments (the Department of Fine Arts and Sciences and the Department of Medicine), and three foundations (the Foundation of Natural and Applied Sciences, the Foundation of Health Sciences, and the Foundation of Social Sciences).
University vision and objectives
Harran University
In 1994, new vocational schools (Severek, Halavani Suruç, Birecik, Viran Şehir, Bozova Vocational Schools) and branches (Veterinary Medicine, Economics and Administrative Sciences) were joined to the system. Later, Ekçakale (1995), Ceylanpınar (1995) and Kahta (1997) Vocational Schools were established, and in 1997, the Faculty of Health was established.
