Establishment of a university
Marmara University
Marmara University was founded on January 16, 1883. It was established in a house behind the Istanbul Girls' High School in the Çağaloğlu district of Istanbul, under the name of Hamidiye Commerce School. Initially, the university was affiliated with the Ministry of Mines, Agriculture, and Forestry.
Since its founding, Marmara University has witnessed significant development in its infrastructure, available majors, and student and staff numbers, making it one of the leading universities in Türkiye.
