Car insurance contract in Türkiye:
In a car insurance contract in Turkey, a written agreement is signed between two parties. The first party is known as the insurer, often an insurance company, while the second party is known as the insured, the vehicle owner. Under this contract, the insurer undertakes to bear the costs of repairing damage and compensating the insured for damage to their vehicle, according to the terms and guarantees specified in the contract.
Types of car insurance in Türkiye:
Car insurance in Turkey is divided into two types: mandatory, meaning that any car or vehicle owner in Turkey is required to have it, and non-mandatory, whereby the car owner contracts with an insurance company to compensate for any damage to their vehicle. In this article, we will explain in detail everything related to car insurance in Turkey, also known as insurance or traffic insurance (trafik sigortasi), and comprehensive insurance (kasko). We will now mention all types of insurance and their features:
1- Compulsory insurance:
It has several names in the language, including Securita, Traffic Securita, Third Party Securita, or Compulsory Insurance, which in Turkish is Trafik sigortası. It is mandatory as soon as you purchase a car or a vehicle that runs on the roads. It must be purchased or activated.
*What are the documents required to obtain car insurance in Turkey?
To obtain compulsory car insurance in Türkiye, the vehicle license is required, in addition to the owner's ID card if the individual is a Turkish citizen, or the residence card if the individual is a resident foreigner, or the asylum kimlik if the individual is a refugee.

They will also be asked to provide a copy of their residency or asylum certificate, a copy of their Turkish ID card, and a copy of their naturalization decision.
*What does private car insurance or compulsory traffic insurance cover? And why is it mandatory?
To prevent disputes between the two parties in the event of a traffic accident, compulsory insurance was established as a ruling and arbitrator, so that the dispute and ruling are transferred between the two insurance companies.
*In the event of a traffic accident, what should I do to obtain insurance?
You must have an accident report with you and a pen to write it. The report is very simple and requires only a little Turkish. If a dispute arises over the method of writing the report, with one party attempting to mitigate responsibility, the traffic police should be contacted, who will issue an accident report. The licenses of the vehicles involved in the collision are copied, as are the driver's licenses of the drivers. Each vehicle owner receives a copy of the aforementioned documents. You can begin the repair process at centers authorized by insurance companies.
*What is the price of traffic insurance or compulsory car insurance in Turkey?
It does not have a fixed price and varies according to a number of criteria that we will mention now:
•The city from which the compulsory insurance or traffic insurance was issued, meaning that the insurance price in crowded cities is higher than in less crowded cities due to the increased possibility of accidents.
•Car type
•Car age
•Car mileage
•Model
•Car accident history
•Loss is recorded
•Car owner's accident history
•Age of the car owner
2- Comprehensive insurance known as KASKO:
It's a non-mandatory insurance that can be purchased independently for comprehensive coverage of cars and vehicles in Türkiye. Coverage reaches 100% and is priced higher than mandatory insurance.
*Does comprehensive insurance replace the mandatory traffic insurance?
It is not necessary to have compulsory insurance, and the CASCO, meaning traffic insurance, is mandatory, whether the CASCO or comprehensive insurance is purchased or not.
*If I forgot to renew my vehicle's traffic security and the police stopped me, what is the procedure?
The vehicle will be immediately impounded with a fine. Releasing the impound requires purchasing mandatory vehicle insurance only. Don't forget to pay the impound fine to avoid late fees.
